Please Note: Nigerian tertiary institutions don’t make use of any outside agent and will not make use of any in the 2024/2025 admission exercise. Aspirants are thereby advised to stay clear from such in processing their applications. Applications should be processed directly, following each guideline and instructions issued by the institution

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied any connection to a fraudulent bank account—number 8520641017 with Sterling Bank—that is allegedly demanding ₦15,700 from candidates to reschedule the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This was made known by JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, in a statement released on Thursday.

Benjamin explained that the fake account, labeled “Copyrightwriter Personal J Rescheduling Flw,” is being used to exploit unsuspecting UTME candidates who missed their scheduled exam dates.

“We are issuing this alert to warn the public of a scam operation aimed at deceiving candidates who couldn’t participate in the UTME. These fraudsters are requesting payments of ₦15,700 under the false claim of offering rescheduling services,” he stated.

He emphasized that the individuals involved in this activity are not associated with JAMB or any authorized government body.

“To be clear, this is a scam operation, and we trust that members of the public will not be misled by such crude and deceptive tactics. The people behind this have absolutely no link to JAMB or any official institution,” he said.

He continued, “The account information being circulated is entirely fictitious and serves no purpose other than to facilitate fraudulent activities. We urge Sterling Bank to promptly investigate and take firm action to stop this illegal act.”

The spokesperson also confirmed that JAMB has notified the appropriate security agencies and is currently working to identify and prosecute those responsible for the scam.

He clarified that JAMB does not reschedule examinations for candidates who miss their test dates for reasons that are not caused by the Board.

“However, we are thoroughly reviewing cases where candidates were unable to take the exam due to biometric verification failures.

“Candidates found to have no issues or discrepancies will be given another opportunity to sit for the exam, free of charge—NO PAYMENT REQUIRED.

“It’s essential to note that JAMB does not request additional fees for exams once a candidate has completed registration.

“We strongly advise all candidates to be cautious and avoid falling for these scams. Stay alert and report any suspicious activity as soon as it is noticed,” the statement concluded.
