The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that approximately one million candidates have registered for the ongoing 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This information was disclosed in the official Bulletin of the Board.
Candidates are reminded that the sales of ePIN will end on February 26th, while registration will conclude on February 28th, 2026. JAMB has advised all candidates who wish to sit for the examination to register immediately, as the Board will not extend the registration deadline under any circumstance.
The Board has observed a concerning trend where candidates delay registration until the final days, subsequently agitating for an extension. However, JAMB stated that this pattern will not be entertained in 2026. The Board is aware of deliberate efforts by examination cheats and individuals posing as tutorial centre owners who mislead candidates into delaying registration in anticipation of an extension.
According to the Board, this tactic aims to force mass registration at the last minute to facilitate examination malpractice. The Board has stated unequivocally that there will be no extension of the 2026 UTME registration period, which began on Monday, January 26, 2026, and was scheduled to last five weeks.
So far, about one million candidates have indicated interest in the examination, with many already purchasing their ePINs and expected to complete registration promptly. JAMB explained that extending the registration period is impracticable, as its operational calendar is tightly aligned with those of other examination bodies.
Candidates are advised to register early, avoid last-minute rushes, and disregard any claims suggesting an extension, as the Board will not be held responsible for candidates who fail to register within the stipulated period. Candidates can start preparations now. Remember, it’s not just about studying hard; it’s about studying smart.
