NECO Suspends Staff Promotion Examination

Feb, 13Views: 6530

The House of Representatives has expressed its appreciation to the National Examination Council (NECO) management for adhering to its resolution by suspending the 2024 staff promotion examination. This decision was announced by NECO earlier in the week, aligning with the House's directive due to prevailing security concerns.

NECO's action to halt the promotion examination, initially scheduled to convene over 1,500 staff members in Minna, Niger State, was in accordance with the House of Representatives' resolution. Notably, NECO stated that the suspension of the staff promotion for the year was indefinite.

In response to this development, Hon. Akin Rotimi, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, commended NECO in a statement. He applauded the examination body for swiftly complying with the parliamentary directive.

The motion, titled "Need to Review the Planned Promotion Exams by NECO," was sponsored by Rep. Akeem Adeyemi during plenary, emphasizing the security situation and economic challenges facing the nation. The House noted NECO's internal circular announcing the indefinite postponement, signaling compliance with the House Committee's directive.

The House commends NECO's prompt response, highlighting the importance of prioritizing public interest above administrative actions. Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen PhD emphasized the need for concerted efforts and support from all Nigerians to achieve meaningful change.

Furthermore, the House urges other government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to emulate NECO's example in fulfilling their mandates and collaborating with the legislative arm. Upholding its legislative agenda, the Green Chamber remains committed to enacting proactive measures to ensure the security and welfare of all Nigerians through oversight and legislative action.
