The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted official approval to the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management to operate as a Vocational Enterprise Institute (VEI).
This significant development follows a successful verification visit conducted by the Board between April 1 and April 3, 2026, and aligns with the National TVET initiative aimed at equipping Nigerian youths with market-ready skills.
The institute has been cleared to provide specialized training across eleven key sectors: Solar PV Installation & Maintenance, Social Media Communications, Creative Media (Digital Media Production), Fashion Design and Tailoring, Beauty Therapy & Cosmetology, Networking and System Security Installation, Hospitality and Catering Training, Electrical Installations, Satellite & CCTV Installation and Maintenance, Welding & Fabrication, and Computer Hardware Repair & Maintenance.
Under this new arrangement, a specific Sectoral Awarding Body will be responsible for the assessment of trainees. Upon recommendation from the awarding body, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) will issue the official certificates to graduates. This streamlined process ensures that the certification carries national recognition and meets the high standards required for professional practice in technical fields.
The official approval letter was signed by Engr. S. M. Yusuf, Director of Vocational, Technical and Skills Development, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NBTE. Copies of the directive have been forwarded to the Registrar of NABTEB and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
