In a statement issued by the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) in Akwa Ibom State on 14 October 2026, the National Universities Commission (NUC) confirmed the green light for twelve additional undergraduate programmes slated to start in the 2026/2027 academic year.

With this latest addition, the university’s catalogue of NUC‑accredited programmes rises to thirty‑six, just four years after the inaugural 2023/2024 academic session.
Prospective students who sat for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and wish to enrol in any of the newly sanctioned courses are instructed to log into the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) and amend their programme choice to the relevant FUTIA offering.
Applicants who did not originally list FUTIA as their first preference but achieved a minimum score of 160 in the 2026 UTME may also switch their first‑choice institution to FUTIA through the JAMB portal.
The university further announced that on‑site screening for accepted candidates is currently underway at its facilities.
Students who indicated FUTIA as their first choice should verify their admission status on the JAMB portal. Those who have received an offer are required to:
The physical screening will be conducted from Monday, 12 October, through Friday, 23 October 2026, at FUTIA’s Takeoff Campus in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State.
Screening activities will commence each day at 8:00 a.m.
Commenting on the development, Vice‑Chancellor Professor Leo Daniel expressed enthusiasm about the approval and reiterated the university’s dedication to widening access to high‑quality education.
He noted that FUTIA will keep generating learning opportunities for residents of its host community, Akwa Ibom State, the broader South‑South region, Nigeria, and beyond.
Professor Daniel, recognized as Nigeria’s first Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, also thanked the management team, Academic Board, Governing Council and other stakeholders for their role in securing the endorsement.
The institution highlighted that the new programmes will bolster teaching, research, manpower development and community service, while expanding options for future students.
