The University of Uyo Students’ Union, through the Office of the Director of Socials, has issued a directive to regulate student social events within and outside the university environment.
According to a memorandum dated April 21, 2026, this move follows concerns over several social events organized during the first semester without proper consultation, approval, or coordination with the Office of the Director of Socials.
The union noted that such actions undermine the university’s structure and regulatory framework, posing risks to security, accountability, and effective event management.
In line with the university management's directives, all social activities must now be conducted under the knowledge, approval, and established guidelines of the Office of the Director of Socials.
Key guidelines include: no individual, group, faculty, department, or series can organize social events without prior notification and approval, and all event proposals must comply with regulations and be properly documented.
Failure to comply will attract disciplinary actions as determined by the university authorities. The directive also mandates Faculty and Departmental Directors of Socials to ensure strict compliance and coordination with the central office.
The Students’ Union emphasized that this measure is necessary to ensure orderliness, safety, and uniformity in planning and executing student-related social activities. The memorandum was signed by the Director of Socials, Amaechina Nnaemeka Franklin.
