The management of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology has refuted reports of a stampede during its second convocation ceremony, describing such claims as misleading and inaccurate.
In a statement issued by the Registrar, Mrs. F.A. Adeusi, the university said the convocation proceedings were conducted peacefully without any disruption or incident on campus. The institution clarified that the reported incident occurred at a private off-campus location, Emirate Hotel, where some graduands had independently organised a celebration after the ceremony.
According to the statement, a fight broke out during the gathering, which reportedly led to a stampede at the venue. The university, however, confirmed that the incident resulted in the death of two graduands and another student, describing the development as tragic.
BOUESTI expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, noting that the university community shares in their grief. It urged the public and media to verify information before publication and avoid linking the incident to the convocation venue or activities, stressing that such associations are false.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safety, order and integrity in all its programmes.
