The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate this year's International Workers' Day.
The announcement was made by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who praised Nigerian workers for their unwavering dedication and significant contributions to the nation's development.
In a statement issued on April 29, 2026, and signed by Magdalene Ajani, the minister applauded workers nationwide for their tireless efforts, emphasizing that their contributions remain crucial to Nigeria's progress and prosperity.
He urged workers to continue upholding the values of patriotism, productivity, and commitment to duty, highlighting their vital role in nation-building.
Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to enhancing workers' welfare, ensuring their security, and fostering a more conducive environment for economic growth.
He further encouraged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the holiday, urging citizens to use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity, diligence, and collective responsibility in building a stronger nation.
