The Senate of the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, has approved five new degree programmes under the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences. This move aims to expand healthcare education and provide more opportunities for students.
According to the university's official weekly newsletter released on May 11, 2026, the newly approved programmes include: Bachelor of Community Health Science Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Doctor of Physiotherapy Bachelor of Radiography
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, commended the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences for initiating the new programmes. He noted that they would complement the institution's MBBS programme and create more academic opportunities for prospective students interested in health-related fields.
Professor Gumel expressed confidence in the faculty's ability to successfully run the programmes, citing improvements in manpower following the return of 13 PhD holders who recently completed their studies. He further stated that communities are in need of professionals in these medical and healthcare fields, assuring that the university management would continue to provide the necessary support to ensure the success of the programmes.
