Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba has been selected as the 14th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan after a rigorous and competitive process.
The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan made this decision at its meeting on July 22, 2026, after considering the report of the Selection Board. The board had recommended Professor Olapegba for the position.
The process to find a new Vice-Chancellor began because the current post will become vacant on November 1, 2026. As required, the Governing Council started the appointment process and advertised the position in three national newspapers and the university's official bulletin in April 2026.
On July 21, 2026, the Council members interviewed all eight candidates and scored them based on approved guidelines. After this, five candidates were shortlisted for the final interview.
The Selection Board for the Vice-Chancellor's appointment was formed with two members from the Council and two members elected by the Senate.
On July 22, 2026, the Joint Council-Senate Selection Board interviewed the five shortlisted candidates. Professor Olapegba emerged as the best candidate for the position of 14th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan.
Professor Olapegba is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, at the university.
