Bells University of Technology, located in Ota, Ogun State, has released a statement to address a widely shared video that highlighted a student's concerns over the state of a dormitory room and its toilet facilities.
In a press release dated Wednesday, 21 October 2026, and signed by Registrar Mr. Lamidi S. Tafa, the institution reaffirmed that the wellbeing, safety and dignity of its learners remain its top priority.
The university also pledged to provide an accurate narrative of the incident to the public, students and their families.
The university explained that the door lock in the highlighted room had been repaired prior to the start of the academic session, but was subsequently broken again within three weeks by the occupants.
Management noted that a recurring issue involves students who, after losing their keys, attempt to force the doors open rather than notifying Hall Porters or the Maintenance Unit.
Such actions repeatedly damage functional locks and put the security of fellow residents' belongings at risk.
According to the administration, the students involved breached existing campus regulations that govern repair work.
The university clarified that any plumbing or sanitary repairs inside its facilities must be performed by its approved contractors, citing health, safety and insurance considerations.
Bells University urged any student with legitimate concerns to follow the established grievance channels.
The statement highlighted that these procedures are designed to ensure issues are addressed properly, avoiding unnecessary escalation or the spread of inaccurate information.
The institution called on bloggers, content creators and broadcasters to obtain the university’s perspective before publishing any reports about the matter.
It also affirmed that Bells University remains willing to engage with stakeholders and the media on this issue.
The statement was signed by Mr. Lamidi S. Tafa, Registrar, Bells University of Technology, Ota, on Wednesday, 21 October 2026.
