JAMB Achieves Seamless UTME Registration, Records Over 782,000 Candidates

Feb, 19Views: 1279

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that as of Friday, February 14, a total of 782,027 candidates have successfully registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across 856 accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide.

JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the registration process, describing it as the most seamless, fast, and efficient in the board’s history.

“Previously, we encountered network failures, power outages, and other technical issues. However, this year, everything has been running smoothly, and we anticipate that this will continue until the end of the registration period,” Oloyede stated.

He further disclosed that within just 10 days of registration, JAMB had already processed 782,027 candidates—nearly half of the expected total—well ahead of schedule.

“As of this afternoon, we have registered 782,027 candidates within less than two weeks of our five-week timeline. We are on course to complete the process long before the deadline,” he added.

According to JAMB’s report, 11,553 of the registered candidates are underage, falling below the official minimum admission age of 16 years.

Oloyede emphasized that the board is exceeding its daily registration targets, averaging over 80,000 candidates per day, with figures occasionally approaching 100,000.

“On Thursday alone, we registered close to 100,000 candidates across the country, reinforcing our confidence that we will complete the process well before our deadline. There will be no need for an extension,” he assured.

Providing further insights, Oloyede reiterated that while the minimum age for university admission remains 16, JAMB makes exceptions for exceptionally gifted candidates who can prove their academic capability.

“There are always exceptional students, perhaps one in a million. No matter how few they are, we should not shut the door on them. This is why we allow them to register,” he explained.

Meanwhile, JAMB has ruled out any possibility of extending the registration deadline, citing the smooth and efficient progress of the exercise.

Oloyede made this declaration while monitoring registration exercises at various CBT centres in Lagos on Friday, February 14.
