Chambers Of Evans Ufeli Threatens Legal Action Against JAMB Over 2025 UTME Irregularities

May, 13Views: 1326

ABUJA — The Chambers of Evans Ufeli, a public interest law firm, has threatened to take legal action against the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over what it described as a "widespread systemic breakdown" during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a strongly worded petition addressed to the JAMB Registrar, the firm, led by prominent legal practitioner and education advocate Evans Ufeli, highlighted a series of technical malfunctions, logistical failures, and alleged safety breaches that it claims compromised the credibility and fairness of the examination process.

The petition, signed by Ufeli, accused JAMB of conducting the 2025 UTME under conditions that were both unjust and harmful to the mental well-being and academic prospects of numerous candidates.

One of the central grievances was the early scheduling of exams, which reportedly required many candidates, including minors, to arrive at their examination centres as early as 6:00 a.m.

“This instruction subjected young students to undue stress, anxiety, and physical exhaustion before their exams even commenced,” the petition read, noting that this placed additional psychological strain on candidates already grappling with exam tension.

Additionally, the firm raised concerns over the reported disappearance of some candidates during the examination period, describing this as a "serious breach" of JAMB's duty to ensure the safety and security of young Nigerians under its care.

“Such incidents expose deep flaws in the planning and execution of the UTME and raise significant concerns about JAMB’s capacity to safeguard the lives of the candidates entrusted to its oversight,” Ufeli stated.

The letter also highlighted widespread delays at various examination centres, where candidates reportedly faced extended waiting times before the start of their exams, further compounding their anxiety and disrupting scheduled sessions.

In response to these issues, the Chambers of Evans Ufeli has demanded that JAMB immediately cancel the 2025 UTME results and conduct fresh examinations under improved and standardized conditions.

“This examination, as conducted, failed to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and transparency. It must be annulled and a new one organized under conditions that meet acceptable standards,” the petition asserted.

The firm warned that if JAMB fails to address these concerns, it would be left with no choice but to seek legal redress.

“Should JAMB fail to take immediate corrective action, we will be compelled to initiate legal proceedings to protect the rights and futures of the affected candidates,” Ufeli wrote.
