The Akwa Ibom State Government has given its approval for the appointment of new members into the Governing Council of Akwa Ibom State University. According to a recent press release issued on February 23, 2026, Governor Umo Bassey Eno approved these appointments to enhance the institution's administration and governance. Udoma Udo Udoma will lead the newly formed council as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman. Other members include Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Surveyor Mfoniso Essien, Lady (Barr.) Dr. Stella Udoh, and Dr. Enefiok Edem. Representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Digital Economy are also part of the council. The government has stated that these appointments are effective immediately. The inauguration of the Governing Council is set for Monday, February 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at the EXCO Chamber, Governor’s Office in Uyo. All appointed members are expected to attend the inauguration promptly.
