The story of Mr. Hillary Agbo-Odeh who last Saturday graduated with a first class degree from Benue State University against all odds shows that success is truly a product of determination, passion and hard work.
In 2005 he was admitted into the Pre-degree programme of the Benue State University. He was hoping to be offered medicine and surgery at the degree level after completing the pre-degree programme. Unfortunately that was not to be as he was offered physics instead.
Due to lack of interest in the course he was offered, he struggled with it and at 300 level he was already having 17 carry overs and was placed on probation.
According to him, that was when he took the decision to write JAMB again. He took the form and applied for psychology which he considered close to medicine and surgery. Fortunate for him, he got admitted to study the course. He had to withdrew from physics department to start a fresh academic journey as a 100 level student in the department of psychology.
Today the 30 year-old is a first class graduate of Psychology, Benue State University with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.75.
He did not only come tops in his department, he was also the best graduating student of the 14th and 15th combined convocation of BSU held on January 17, 2015 and bagged about 7 academic awards which include Tony and Awele Elumelu Prize for Excellence.
