The JAMB Registrar, Professor Dibu at the end of the policy meeting held on Monday 6th June, 2016 said that over 1.25 million candidates scored up to 180 and above.
From all indications, this seems to be the major reason the cut-off mark was pegged at 180 for Universities, polytechnics and Colleges of education alike.
This means that any candidates with a score less than 180 should as well forget about securing admission via UTME this year.
This does not sound fair considering the fact that in previous years candidates who score as low as 150 were able to secure admission in polytechnics and Colleges of education.
However, if we are to go by what the JAMB boss said, it means that approximately, 80% of candidates who participated in 2016 UTME scored 180 and above. This seems to justify the decision to peg cut-off mark at 180 for universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of education.
The question now is, how fair is this year's cut-off mark?
