The University of Jos has declared the position of Vice-Chancellor vacant, effective December 1, 2026. In accordance with the University of Jos Act and the Conditions and Scheme of Service for Senior Staff, the Governing Council has approved the advertisement of the position.
The University of Jos, a comprehensive public institution, is seeking a suitably qualified candidate with requisite qualifications and cognate experience to apply for the post of Vice-Chancellor. The University, situated in Jos, Plateau State, is ranked among the top 10 Nigerian universities in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
The Vice-Chancellor shall have the general functions of coordinating the activities of the University and is the Chief Executive, Chief Academic, and Chief Accounting Officer of the University. The ideal candidate must be a person with a clear vision for the further development of the University, with high integrity and academic excellence, and an indelible reputation in their respective discipline.
Candidates for the position must meet specific criteria, including a good university education, at least 15 years of unbroken teaching and research experience, and a subsisting teaching and research position in a recognized university. They must also demonstrate evidence of being a recipient of funded research grants and research collaborations, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive academic and administrative excellence.
The appointment is for a non-renewable term of five years, with remuneration and benefits as approved by the Federal Government. Applicants should submit 15 copies of their typed applications, detailed curriculum vitae, and photocopies of their educational/professional credentials. Each application must be accompanied by a statement of vision for driving the University in the next five years as a 21st-century university.
Applications and referees' reports must reach the Registrar and Secretary to Council not later than six weeks from the date of the advertisement, i.e., on or before July 13, 2026. Candidates should note that only those shortlisted will be contacted.
