FACULTY OF ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES:

Basic Requirements: Candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma must hold five O’Level credit passes covering English Language, Mathematics and any three additional subjects from the Arts or Social Sciences streams.

Specific Requirements:

• For the PGD, applicants should possess an HND with at least a Lower Credit, a Registered Nursing Certificate, a Community Health Certificate, or equivalent qualifications from recognised institutions.
• For the M.Sc., candidates must either:
• hold a first degree of at least Second Class Lower Division in a relevant discipline (such as Health Education, Special Education, Nursing, Psychiatry, Psychology, or any other pertinent field in the Sciences, Social Sciences or Humanities), or
• possess a LAUTECH Postgraduate Diploma or an equivalent credential from another recognised university.
• Applicants for the Ph.D. must satisfy all the M.Sc. conditions listed above and additionally hold a Master of Science degree in Social Work.

Department of Economics:

The department provides PGD, M.Sc., and Ph.D. programmes.

Basic Requirement: Prospective students must have five O’Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any three Social Science subjects, obtained within a maximum of two sittings.

Basic Requirement: Candidates need a minimum of five Ordinary Level credits obtained in no more than two sittings, covering English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any two of the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Sciences, Economics/Geography, Building Construction, Technical Drawing, or Fine Arts.

• SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the departmental and UTME criteria, candidates must also meet the following qualification thresholds:

• Postgraduate Diploma Programme

For a Postgraduate Diploma, applicants should hold a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.), Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with at least a Third Class grade in the relevant field, or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in a related discipline with a minimum of Lower Credit. Graduates with MBBS or DVM qualifications may be considered for a Postgraduate Diploma in Biochemistry.

• M.Tech./M.Sc., M.A. Programmes

Candidates must possess a B.Tech., B.Sc., B.Eng., B.A. or BMLS degree with at least a Second Class Lower Division standing in the pertinent area of study. Applicants holding a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) or a PGD in a related discipline must also achieve a minimum score of 60 to be eligible for M.Tech. or M.Sc. programmes.

• M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programmes

For admission to M.Phil. courses, candidates need a weighted average score of at least 50 in their preceding Master’s degree; for Ph.D. programmes, the required weighted average rises to 60. In certain cases, Ph.D. candidates may be required to begin with an M.Phil./Ph.D. track where appropriate.

• Ph.D. in Business Administration

Candidates are required to hold an M.Sc., M.Tech. or M.Phil. in Management Sciences—such as Business Administration, Management, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and related fields—from an accredited university, achieving at least a 60 % weighted score. Depending on the department, applicants may also need to clear a selection test, which could be written or oral.

• For MNSc.

Applicants must have earned a B.NSc. or B.Sc. in Nursing from a recognized university, with at least a pass classification; if the certificate is unclassified, a second‑class lower division is acceptable.

• For M. Phil. Nursing

Nursing graduates who obtained between 50 % and 54 % in their MNSc. or M.Sc. Nursing from an accredited institution will qualify for the M.Phil. Nursing programme.

• For M.Phil/Ph.D and Ph.D Nursing

Those who achieved a weighted score of 60 % or higher in their MNSc. or M.Sc. Nursing will be eligible for direct entry into the Ph.D. programme. Applicants with a weighted score ranging from 55 % to 59 % may apply for the M.Phil. or Ph.D. track.
