The Federal Ministry of Education is pushing forward a plan to synchronise the external examination calendar for 2027, with the aim of having results available by August 2027. This schedule is intended to give qualified candidates enough time to begin the admission process for tertiary institutions in September.
The drive is part of the broader education reform programme led by Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI). NESRI seeks to boost efficiency, improve coordination among stakeholders and raise overall educational outcomes.
To move the agenda ahead, Minister of State for Education Prof. Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad organised a gathering with the heads and representatives of the various examination bodies at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja. The session centred on aligning exam windows, reducing clashes in the calendar and guaranteeing prompt processing and publication of results.
The ministry has outlined the following provisional dates for the major external examinations slated for 2027:
These dates suggest that the JAMB examination could be conducted earlier than in previous years. Candidates are therefore encouraged to begin their preparation using the available JAMB CBT mobile application for Android devices or the desktop CBT software. Both platforms host more than 60,000 past JAMB questions and solutions, offering comprehensive practice material. Learners may also explore the CBT Classroom portal for additional resources. Joining the JAMB WhatsApp community is recommended, as it allows aspirants and prospective school students to pose queries, discuss concerns and receive prompt feedback. CLICK HERE to join.
Educational institutions, tutorial centres, business hubs and even cafés are invited to set up CBT centres that can operate as JAMB CBT agents and training facilities, thereby supporting students in their exam preparation. For guidance on establishing such centres, please click here.
The ministry clarified that the suggested timetable is designed to foster better coordination among the various examination bodies and to ensure that candidates obtain their results early enough to take part in the admission cycle for the 2027/2028 academic session.
It also affirmed that the government will maintain ongoing dialogue with the examination agencies to guarantee adherence to the agreed timelines, reinforce accountability and align exam schedules and result releases with the admission calendars of tertiary institutions.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration reiterated its dedication to advancing the NESRI‑driven education reforms, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and expanding timely access to higher education.
The press release was signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education.
Note: The dates presented above are labeled in the press release as proposed dates. Candidates should await official notifications from JAMB, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS for the final, confirmed schedules.
