The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has sent a clear message to candidates preparing for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE): don’t wait till the last minute—get your profile ready now.
In a notice released through its latest weekly bulletin on Monday, the examination body advised intending candidates to begin their JAMB profile creation immediately, stressing that delays could lead to unnecessary stress when registration and examinations commence.
JAMB particularly warned candidates to double-check their National Identification Number (NIN) details before starting the process. According to the board, any mismatch or error in NIN information can trigger complications that may affect registration, examination participation, or admission processing.
The board explained that early preparation is key, noting that many of the challenges candidates face each year stem from rushed profile creation and inaccurate personal data. Prospective UTME and DE candidates who are yet to create their profiles were therefore urged to act without delay.
Reiterating its position, JAMB stated that registration for the 2026 UTME and Direct Entry programmes may open at any time, making advance readiness essential. Candidates were encouraged to ensure that all personal information—names, dates of birth, and other records—are accurate and consistent across all official documents.
JAMB also cautioned that opportunities to correct errors after submission are limited. As a result, candidates were advised to take full responsibility for the correctness of their details from the outset, as correction requests may not always be approved.
On the issue of cost, the board reassured candidates and parents nationwide that the fees for UTME and DE application documents have remained unchanged for the past nine years. It added that there are no plans to increase the 2026 registration fees, except if doing so becomes absolutely necessary to maintain the credibility and standard of the examinations.
According to JAMB, this decision reflects the government’s human-centred policy direction and acknowledges the current economic pressures faced by Nigerian families.
Bottom line: start early, verify everything, and save yourself future headaches.
