The University of Uyo's Students' Union Government has introduced a 'Strict Silence Policy' for night study sessions as exams begin this Monday.
In a statement signed by the Attorney General, Ittoro Gabriel, the SUG announced a ban on noise and disruptions in and around study areas. This aims to ensure equal study opportunities for all students using classrooms overnight.
The directive prohibits audio disturbances like music, podcasts, or movies via speakers, as well as loud vocalizations, including singing and group discussions, in quiet areas. It also restricts loud prayers or devotions to designated worship areas or outdoors.
The SUG advises students to follow the 'Golden Rule': if a neighbor can hear you, you're too loud. To enforce the rules, students are encouraged to take photo or video evidence of violators. Those caught will face prosecution in the SUG Courts for public nuisance and academic sabotage.
The SUG wishes students good luck in their forthcoming exams.
