The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has announced new dates for its 44th convocation ceremony. According to the Chairman of Senate, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, the ceremony will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026, and Saturday, May 9, 2026. The decision was made during an emergency Senate meeting on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Postgraduate hall of the University.
Friday, May 8, 2026, will be dedicated to the award of first degrees and prizes, while Saturday, May 9, 2026, will be for the conferment of postgraduate degrees. The Executive Governor of Rivers State and Visitor to the University, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, has approved the new dates.
In addition to the convocation ceremony, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku also announced the elevation of 35 academic staff to the rank of Professors. The newly promoted Professors are from various faculties, including Administration and Management Sciences, Agriculture, Education, Humanities, Natural and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences, and Vocational and Technical Education.
The list of new Professors includes Professor Ikechi Prince Obinna, Professor Chukwu Godswill Chinedu, Professor Joy.A. Mekuri-Ndimele, and Professor Dumo Nkesi Opara, among others. Furthermore, 41 academic staff have been promoted to the rank of Associate Professors (Readers).
The Chairman of Senate congratulated the newly promoted Professors and Associate Professors, advising them to provide academic leadership to their colleagues and ensure that those coming behind them are promoted if they have the necessary qualifications and meet the requirements when the time comes.
