The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has put an end to its strike action, which began on May 19, 2026.

The decision to suspend the strike was made during an emergency Congress of the Union, held at the Calabar Campus of the University. This development comes after a series of interventions by the UNICROSS Management and the Cross River State Government.

As part of the efforts to resolve the industrial dispute, the Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Prof. Francisca Bassey, led the University's Management team and the leadership of ASUU UNICROSS Branch to a closed-door meeting with the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.

Before that engagement, she had also led student leaders to a separate meeting with the Governor. Both meetings took place last week. The suspension of the strike is a result of the assurances given by the Governor during these meetings.

This development shows the commitment of the University's Management and the Cross River State Government to restoring industrial harmony and ensuring the uninterrupted progress of the University. The students, ASUU, and other stakeholders are also commended for their patience, understanding, and constructive engagement throughout the period of the strike.

The suspension of the industrial action paves the way for the resumption of academic activities across the University.
