JAMB Suspends Over Ten Thousand DE Students

Feb, 13Views: 6698

More than 10,378 candidates who participated in the Direct Entry examination organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in 2023 currently face suspension of their admission due to their A-level issuing institutions' failure to submit verification reports to JAMB.

In February 2023, JAMB issued an advisory to guide candidates seeking admission through Direct Entry for the 2023/2024 academic session. The advisory aimed to address the issue of candidates using unacceptable or forged A-level certificates/qualifications to secure admission.

Recently, JAMB advised affected candidates to promptly contact their former institutions to verify their certificates, emphasizing that unverified certificates would not be accepted.

JAMB also stated that it had written to all tertiary institutions that issued certificates, with a significant number responding positively, but others failing to comply.

A report by JAMB, obtained in Abuja, stated, "The verification exercises conducted by the Nigeria Post-secondary Education Data System have necessitated the introduction of further steps to address the various sharp practices and inconsistencies in the ongoing 2023 DE admission exercise."

JAMB noted that as part of efforts to combat these practices, "The NIPEDS has written to all tertiary institutions in the country to facilitate the verification of their students' A-level certificates. While many institutions have responded and had their students' certificates verified, many others have not."

"In effect, candidates holding certificates from these institutions will not be considered for admission until verification is completed."

Investigation revealed that some with the highest number of unverified A-level results by candidates include Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with 1,314; Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, 611; Aminu Saleh College of Education, 269; College of Education, Minna, 248; Federal College of Education, Okene, 164; Federal College of Education, Kotangora, 164; Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, 383 candidates, among others.
