The Students’ Union Government of MAPOLY is addressing the student community regarding the recent school fees increase.

The Union has been engaged with the Polytechnic Management through consultations and meetings since the reviewed fees appeared on the students’ portal. Throughout these engagements, the Union has consistently maintained that the interest and welfare of MAPOLY students must remain paramount in every decision affecting their academic pursuit.

Despite sustained efforts and several rounds of dialogue, the concerns of students remain unresolved. The Students’ Union Government believes that the prevailing economic realities make it increasingly difficult for many students and parents to bear additional financial burdens. It is therefore their responsibility to ensure that these concerns are neither ignored nor treated with indifference.

As the constitutionally recognized voice of the students, they cannot fold their arms or pretend that all is well. At the same time, they remain committed to responsible leadership, constructive engagement, and peaceful advocacy.

Consequently, after careful deliberation, the Students’ Union Government hereby directs all MAPOLY students to observe a peaceful Sit-at-Home on Monday, 3rd August, 2026, as a demonstration of their collective dissatisfaction with the recent increase in school fees and a call for further reconsideration by the appropriate authorities.

This action is a peaceful expression of their shared concerns. It is not an invitation to violence, destruction of property, intimidation, or any act capable of disrupting the peace and reputation of the institution.

Accordingly, all students are strongly advised to:

• Remain at home throughout Monday, 3rd August, 2026.
• Refrain from attending lectures or participating in any academic activities scheduled for the day.
• Maintain peace, order, and discipline at all times.
• Avoid any confrontation with members of staff, security personnel, or fellow students.
• Disregard rumours and rely only on information officially released by the Students’ Union Government.

The Students’ Union Government also respectfully appeals to all shuttle operators, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, and other transport service providers within the Polytechnic community to identify with this peaceful cause by suspending operations within and outside the campus for the duration of the Sit-at-Home. Their cooperation and solidarity in this regard will further demonstrate the collective commitment to the welfare and interests of MAPOLY students.

History has consistently shown that the strength of any Students’ Union lies not merely in its words, but in the unity, discipline, and solidarity of the students it represents. The students’ cooperation will send a clear and unmistakable message that the voices of MAPOLY students deserve to be heard and respected.

The Students’ Union wishes to assure all students that this directive does not signify the end of engagement with the Management. Rather, it is a demonstration that while dialogue continues, the collective concerns of MAPOLY students cannot be overlooked. The Union remains open to constructive engagement and sincerely hopes that this collective action will encourage a favourable reconsideration of the issues raised in the interest of every Mapaite.

The Union appreciates the students’ understanding, resilience, and continued confidence in their Union. Let them once again demonstrate that MAPOLY students can stand firmly for their rights while upholding the values of peace, discipline, and responsible unionism.
