The Senate of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, has given its assent to the re‑appointment of Professor Mohammed Aliyu Bello as Deputy Vice‑Chancellor (Academic) for a second term, and it has also endorsed the formation of a Faculty of Computing that will bring together the Departments of Computer Science and Cyber Security.
The resolutions were adopted during the institution’s 110th Regular Senate Meeting, which was chaired by Vice‑Chancellor Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman.
Professor Bello’s candidacy came after Dr. Isah Danjuma Kure, who had initially been put forward for the same role, voluntarily withdrew his name, allowing Professor Bello to assume the nomination.
Addressing the assembly, the Vice‑Chancellor – who also functions as the Senate Chairman – indicated that he would submit Professor Bello’s nomination to the University’s Governing Council for further review and formal endorsement.
He added that the Council’s decision would be relayed back to the Senate, enabling the body to act in accordance with the university’s established governance framework.
In a separate but equally significant move, the Senate sanctioned the creation of a new Faculty of Computing, which will house both the Computer Science and Cyber Security departments.
The launch of this Faculty is anticipated to reinforce the university’s academic architecture in computing‑related fields and to provide a more integrated platform for instruction, research, and scholarly activity in computer science and cyber security.
