Achievers University: MDCN Accreditation For MBBS (2026)

May, 21Views: 724

Achievers University, located in Owo, Ondo State, has successfully secured pre-clinical accreditation for its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). Alongside this accreditation, the university has been approved to increase its annual medical student admission quota from 50 to 120.

The approval followed a comprehensive accreditation visit conducted by an 11-member MDCN team to the University on Tuesday, 21st April, 2026. During the visit, the institution’s College of Medicine was evaluated against national standards for medical education, infrastructure, staffing, and clinical training.

In a letter dated May 7, 2026, signed by Prof. Fatima Kyari, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the MDCN, the Council conveyed approval for pre-clinical accreditation of the MBBS programme. The Council also approved an increase in the University’s medical students’ admission quota from 50 to 120.

The accreditation visitation team, led by Dr. N. U. Nwakanma, the Deputy Registrar of the Council, conducted a detailed review of the University’s teaching facilities, laboratories, diagnostic equipment, governance systems, curriculum implementation, clinical partnerships, and academic staffing.

According to Prof. Bode Ayorinde, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Achievers University, the approval is a major institutional milestone and a contribution to national healthcare development. He stated that the approval reflects years of strategic investment in infrastructure, personnel, and academic systems aimed at building a medical college capable of meeting global standards.

The University currently has the capacity to admit over 3,000 students across its 38 academic programmes and continues to expand its academic and infrastructural capacity to meet increasing demand for quality higher education. Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oyesoji Aremu, noted that the increased admission quota reflects the Council’s confidence in the University’s readiness and institutional capacity.

Professor Aremu added that the development is proof of the University's commitment to producing highly skilled medical professionals equipped to address contemporary healthcare challenges. In another development, Professor Aremu disclosed that the University recently secured full accreditation for seven academic programmes presented for re-accreditation. These include Medical Laboratory Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Microbiology, Criminology and Security Studies, and Sociology.

The approvals demonstrate the institution’s sustained commitment to academic quality assurance, professional standards, and continuous improvement across its programmes. Congratulations to the university community on this great achievement!
