WAEC: 2026 WASSCE Results Credibility Defended

Aug, 14Views: 37

The West African Examinations Council has come out in defense of the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results.

The Council's Public Affairs Department issued a statement on Thursday, explaining that the results were a product of rigorous, transparent, and quality-assured processes that have been the hallmark of its examinations over the years.

WAEC emphasized that the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates adhered strictly to established standard operational procedures and relevant educational policies, in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Council welcomes constructive scrutiny as part of its accountability to candidates, parents, schools, and the public, but it wishes to state unequivocally that this year's results were produced through the same rigorous, transparent, and quality-assured processes that have guided its operations for decades.

This statement comes on the heels of recent public commentary, particularly on social media, that has raised questions about the accuracy and credibility of the recently released results.

The Council acknowledged that anxiety over examination outcomes is normal, especially among candidates who are hoping to progress to the next stage of their education.

However, WAEC cautioned the public against relying on unverified information circulating on social media, which can be misleading and cause undue anxiety.

The Council explained that every candidate's script undergoes several stages of marking, moderation, and auditing before results are released, ensuring the integrity of the process.

  • Every candidate's script is marked by a team of experienced examiners.
  • The marked scripts then undergo a moderation process to ensure consistency.
  • The moderated scripts are then audited to ensure accuracy and fairness.

These processes are guided by standardized marking schemes and overseen by vetted subject experts to ensure objective and fair scoring.

WAEC also reminded candidates and other stakeholders that it has established channels through which they can raise concerns or seek clarification about their results.

The Council maintains clear procedures for addressing queries or grievances, and guidance on query resolution is available through its offices nationwide and its verified online communication channels.

The examination body reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of its assessment processes and safeguarding the interests of candidates.

WAEC hereby reiterates its unwavering commitment to preserving the integrity of its assessment processes and safeguarding the interests of every candidate.

The Council advised members of the public with concerns about the results to contact it directly through its offices or verified communication channels, rather than relying on social media speculation.
