Lagos State University (LASU) has once again drawn national attention as one of its distinguished scholars, Professor Samuel Gbadebo Odewunmi, has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Professor Odewunmi is a Professor of Transport Planning and Policy and a former Dean of the School of Transport and Logistics, Lagos State University.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated December 15, 2025, signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs Blossom E. Okorie. The letter reads in part:
“Further to the approval of the Visitor to the University of Uyo, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as communicated by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, CON, I write on behalf of the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University to convey your appointment as the Acting Vice-Chancellor, University of Uyo, Nigeria.”
The appointment takes immediate effect and will remain in force pending the completion of the process for the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, congratulated Professor Odewunmi on his meritorious appointment. She described it as a well-earned recognition of his distinguished academic career, proven administrative capacity, and outstanding contributions to scholarship.
Professor Olatunji-Bello expressed confidence that Professor Odewunmi’s wealth of experience would significantly enhance the growth, stability, and academic advancement of the University of Uyo.
Lagos State University wished Professor Odewunmi a successful and impactful tenure as Acting Vice-Chancellor.
