The Students’ Representative Council of Ahmadu Bello University has issued an update regarding the disbursement and refund process for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, specifically for graduated students. This update, dated 16th March 2026, aims to clarify the current status of NELFUND payments.
While many graduated students have seen their NELFUND portal status updated to 'Disbursed,' a significant number of these payments have not yet been received by the university’s accounts. Following consultations with relevant university offices, it was confirmed that administrative delays between NELFUND and the institution are currently being addressed.
To ensure accuracy and fairness, the university is conducting a collective refund process rather than individual processing. Before any refunds are issued, the institution is performing a three-step verification: Payment Identification, Student Status Verification, and Fee History Audit. NELFUND has indicated that some payments labeled as 'Disbursed' are still in the final stages of completion.
Consequently, the university has stated that refunds will not commence until all pending payments are received and the comprehensive verification process is finalized. The SRC Public Relations Officer, Oladayo Amos, expressed that the council understands the concerns of affected graduates but emphasized that the high volume of records requires meticulous coordination. Graduates are advised to remain patient as the administration completes these essential procedures. The SRC has pledged to remain in constant engagement with the authorities and will provide further updates as new information becomes available.
