The University of Calabar has officially announced the schedule for its 38th Convocation Ceremony, outlining a week-long series of academic and ceremonial events for graduands and the general public.
The convocation events will commence on Thursday, April 2, 2026, with a press conference by the Vice Chancellor at the Council Chamber of the university.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, activities will continue with an inter-denominational service at the Senator Godswill Akpabio Conference Centre, followed by a research fair and exhibition at the Hogan Bassey Parking Lot.
The Meeting of Convocation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the same conference centre.
A key highlight of the ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 9, 2026, featuring the Convocation Lecture to be delivered by Garba Ayodeji Wahab. The lecture, titled “Redefining National Security in an Era of Endemic Insecurity: The Role of Tertiary Institutions,” will be held at noon. Later that day, a command performance will take place at the Chinua Achebe Arts Theatre.
The main convocation ceremony will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Abraham Ordia Stadium, where diplomas, first degrees, and master’s degrees will be awarded. A gala night for Ph.D. graduates and their supervisors is scheduled for the evening at the Hall of Fame.
On Saturday, April 11, 2026, the university will confer postgraduate and honorary degrees, as well as induct new members into the alumni association and launch its endowment fund.
The convocation activities will conclude on Sunday, April 12, 2026, with a thanksgiving service at St. Paul Catholic Church within the university campus.
Important Information for Graduands: Graduands are advised to obtain their academic gowns from faculty officers upon presentation of payment evidence. Late return of gowns after April 13, 2026, will attract a daily penalty.
Postgraduate students are required to pay specified fees for gown purchase or hire, scrolls, and other convocation-related services.
Each Ph.D. and Master’s graduate will receive one invitation card, allowing them to invite a guest. Graduands must adhere strictly to the convocation procession guidelines, as only properly robed participants will be allowed to take part.
The university also emphasized that all photographs will be taken after the convocation ceremony.
