The Students’ Representative Council of Sa'adu Zungur University is alerting all students to a recent, serious security incident. Around 8:00 PM near Villa Lodge, a female student, Maryam Yakeen, a 200-level Bio-Education student, was attacked and severely injured by an unidentified individual.
The situation was critical but thankfully, urgent assistance was provided in time. The Students’ Representative Council extends heartfelt prayers to Maryam Yakeen, wishing her a quick recovery and ease in her condition.
In light of this incident, students are strongly advised to be cautious and vigilant, especially with the end of examinations approaching. It has been observed that periods with fewer students on campus can be exploited, putting those remaining at greater risk.
To ensure safety, students are advised to be mindful of their movements, especially during evening hours, avoid isolated or poorly lit areas, stay alert, prioritize personal safety, safeguard their belongings, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
The Students’ Representative Council appreciates the students who provided immediate assistance to the victim and the Dean, Students’ Affairs, for his swift intervention. Investigations into this incident are ongoing, and anyone found to be involved will face disciplinary and legal action.
The university community is urged to remain cautious and look out for one another.
