The Bayelsa Medical University has achieved a significant milestone with the full accreditation of its Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) programme, as well as its Health Administration programme. This accomplishment is a testament to the university's commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, and global competitiveness in medical and health sciences education, aligning with the ASPIRE Agenda.
The National Universities Commission granted the accreditation on April 7, 2026, following a thorough evaluation process. The accreditation confirms that both programmes exceed the national standards in curriculum delivery, faculty strength, infrastructure, clinical training, and institutional governance, with a validity period of 5 years.
The MBBS programme has demonstrated outstanding compliance with the required benchmarks for training medical professionals. Similarly, the Health Administration programme was commended for its strategic importance in producing skilled professionals equipped to manage and strengthen modern healthcare systems.
Professor Dimie Ogoina, Vice-Chancellor of the university, expressed joy and excitement over the achievement, describing it as a validation of the university's vision and commitment to excellence. He commended the collective efforts of staff, students, the Council, and all stakeholders, stating that this achievement is the result of bold determination and a promise kept. The Vice-Chancellor had promised to transform the Bayelsa Medical University within two years of his inauguration, and this accreditation is a significant step towards that goal.
The university community is celebrating this great achievement, marking a new chapter in the institution's pursuit of academic excellence.
