The Student Union Government at Rivers State University has introduced a new directive to restore transparency in the campus shuttle system. This move is in response to ongoing student concerns over a disputed N50 balance.
Following deliberations with park management and the SUG President, it was agreed that effective Monday, 23 March, all shuttle vehicles must complete all payment transactions, including issuing exact change, before departing from the park.
The decision, announced in a public notice, seeks to eliminate recurring disputes between drivers and passengers over change balances. Park management had also reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of some drivers regarding the issue.
The SUG emphasized that the new measure is designed to ensure a more accountable and student-friendly transportation system. Students are urged to cooperate with the process, while drivers are expected to strictly comply.
The welfare and convenience of students remain the union’s top priority, according to the statement signed by Hon. Irondi Iheoma Liberty, Director of Transportation & Equipment, and Comr Martins Marvellous Chukwumeka, SUG Executive President.
