The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) gave its approval for holding special resit examinations aimed at eligible students, especially those in their final year or in spill‑over status who satisfy the set criteria.

This resolution emerged as a key outcome of the 438th meeting of the University Senate, convened on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, after the Senate reviewed the Committee on Special Resit Examinations’ report.

The committee had studied the feasibility, need, implementation strategies and procedural modalities for introducing special resit exams at the university.

According to the approved plan, the special resit exams will be administered at the close of the academic session and subsequently whenever the situation demands.

These examinations are targeted specifically at eligible final‑year and spill‑over students who fulfill the conditions sanctioned by the Senate.

The eligibility criteria state that a student must have enrolled in, attempted, and failed the relevant taught courses during a regular examination to qualify for a special resit.

A final‑year student may be eligible if they have failed no more than three courses, whereas a spill‑over student may qualify with up to five failed courses.

The Senate expects this approval to give qualifying students an extra chance to clear outstanding taught courses and move toward completing their academic programmes, provided they adhere to the established conditions and procedures.
