The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has formally addressed growing concerns surrounding the recent shutdown of the University’s online portal, which students rely on for school fees payment and other academic transactions.
In a press statement issued on 18 January 2026 and signed by the Office of the Public Relations Officer, the Union clarified that the portal was taken offline following the expiration of a deadline earlier approved by the University Management.
Reason For The Portal Shutdown
According to the SUG, the closure was a direct consequence of the lapse of the management-approved deadline tied to portal usage. The Union acknowledged that many students were still depending on the platform to complete school fees payments and other essential academic processes at the time access was withdrawn.
No additional reasons beyond the deadline expiration were provided in the statement.
Steps Being Taken By The SUG
The Union disclosed that it is currently engaging the relevant University authorities to resolve the issue. It assured students that discussions are ongoing and that all necessary efforts are being made to ensure the portal is reopened as soon as possible.
The SUG further pledged to keep the student body updated through officially recognized communication channels as developments unfold.
Guidance To Students
While awaiting resolution, the Union appealed to students to remain calm and refrain from panic. It emphasized that once the portal is restored, students will be able to proceed with school fees payment and other outstanding academic obligations without obstruction.
Warning Against Unofficial Information
The SUG also cautioned students against relying on rumours or misleading claims circulating from unofficial sources. Students were urged to depend solely on information released through recognized University and Union platforms.
In closing, the Union expressed appreciation to the student community for its patience and cooperation, reiterating its commitment to transparent communication until the matter is fully resolved.
