The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revisited its rules concerning the replacement of candidates' registered mobile numbers and the alteration of registered email addresses, introducing a controlled mechanism to help those who have genuinely lost access to their SIM cards or email accounts.

Earlier, the Board had prohibited SIM swaps and email modifications as a precaution against security risks linked to such changes. With the rollout of stronger security protocols, especially enhanced identity and biometric verification, the Board has now reassessed the restriction.

Starting Monday, 21 September 2026, the new system will allow candidates who cannot use their original SIM numbers—particularly those needed for future UTME registrations—or whose registered email accounts are irretrievable, to amend their details through a safe, regulated process.

The move aims to lessen the difficulty and stress that candidates face when they lose access to their official credentials, making the pathway to tertiary admission smoother.

Nevertheless, the Board emphasized that this allowance will be governed by rigorous authentication steps to guard against impersonation, fraud, and any unauthorized changes to candidate records. The SIM swap and/or email change service can be used only a single time per candidate.

Availability and Requirements

The service will be offered exclusively at JAMB CBT (PTC/PRC) Centres, including applicable State Offices.

Candidates who wish to use the service must provide:

• The new mobile number and/or email address, as relevant
• A properly executed Court Affidavit, scanned and ready for upload

The step-by-step procedure

Applicants are expected to:

• 1) Sign into their e-Facility profile using the existing email address, Registration Number, or Profile Code.
• 2) Choose "SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment" from the menu and settle the required fee.
• 3) Visit the designated JAMB CBT (PTC/PRC) Centre, open the SIM Swap/eMail Change QuickLink, enter the candidate's Profile Code or current mobile number, and click "Fetch Details."
• 4) Complete biometric verification and select the desired service option: mobile number only, email address only, or both mobile number and email address.
• 5) Input the new mobile number and/or email address and upload the scanned Court Affidavit.
• 6) Press "Update" to finalize the request; a confirmation message will appear once the update is successful.

Candidates are urged to exercise utmost caution and to patronise only the authorized JAMB CBT (PTC/PRC) Centres.
